Elon Musk, the owner of X, has repositioned the platform as a strong advocate for President-elect Donald J. Trump, actively using his influence to advance a conservative viewpoint. Musk has posted extensively about Trump since the election, presenting X as a primary hub for Trump’s presidency and conservative voices. His vocal support has shaped the platform into a gathering point for the incoming administration and its followers.

In recent days, Musk has shared over 400 posts celebrating Trump’s win and promoting causes Trump may prioritize. X CEO Linda Yaccarino also reinforced the platform’s political stance, commenting “Reporting for duty” in a post regarding X’s involvement in political discourse.

Musk and Yaccarino’s messaging reflects a strategic pivot positioning X as a network that aligns with Trump’s presidency. Musk has encouraged X users to rely less on traditional media and to engage in “citizen journalism,” pushing Trump’s message directly through the platform.

This shift has been developing over several months. Musk endorsed Trump in July, hosting an audio town hall on X right before Election Day, where he encouraged his large follower base to support Trump. Trump acknowledged Musk’s support during his victory speech, referring to him as a “star.”

Analysts note this strategic pivot. Steven Livingston, director at George Washington University’s Institute for Data, Democracy, and Politics, observed that Musk has transformed X into a conservative stronghold, moving from a public forum to a megaphone.

Musk’s rightward transformation of X began soon after acquiring the platform in October 2022. In the weeks that followed, Musk relaxed several content moderation policies, citing his commitment to free speech.

Musk also restored thousands of previously banned accounts, including Trump’s, which had been inactive while Trump focused on his own platform, Truth Social. By August, however, Musk successfully encouraged Trump to return to X, hosting a two-hour livestream.

Since then, X has become a key resource for the Trump campaign, with Musk frequently highlighting Trump’s accomplishments and using the platform to host interviews with other conservative voices.

Looking forward, Musk has hinted at potential involvement in Trump’s administration, suggesting he might serve on a government commission focused on efficiency reforms. Musk has even noted that Trump’s leadership could support SpaceX’s Mars ambitions. Recently, Musk shared an electoral map in red, adding, “They say red light helps you sleep better.”
