Jackie Johnson-Smith experienced an unexpected act of kindness while dining with her family at a pizza restaurant in Iowa.
She posted a photo of her bill on Facebook along with the message, “I’ve breastfed three children.” She reflected on the many moments she’s cared for her children, both in public and private, through happy and difficult times, and how she’s often faced judgmental looks. However, her experience at Fongs was different. After nursing her fussy baby in the booth, she got up to leave quietly so as not to disturb others.
That’s when the waitress handed her husband a receipt with a note attached. Jackie, feeling overwhelmed and emotional, shared how she couldn’t speak at the moment, but that the gesture meant a lot. While she doesn’t seek recognition for breastfeeding, the kind words were deeply appreciated. The note concluded with the powerful message, “It’s amazing how women can empower and support each other.”
The message was written by waitress Bodi Kinney, who told KCCI 8 News in Des Moines, “We need to come together and support each other when it comes to nursing our children.”
