After former President Trump’s resounding win in the 2024 presidential election, ABC’s “The View” expressed deep concerns about the future with the Republican Party poised to control the White House and both chambers of Congress. In today’s segment, co-host Sunny Hostin shared her deep unease about Trump potentially having “unfettered power.”
Hostin remarked to her fellow panelists, “I don’t know. I’m profoundly disturbed. If you check the New York Times this morning, the headline read, ‘America makes a perilous choice.’ In 2016, we were uncertain about what a Trump administration would bring, but now we know. And now, he’s likely to have nearly unrestricted power.”
She continued, expressing her worries for various societal groups. “I’m not just concerned for myself,” she said. “I’m concerned about my social standing, the working class, my mother who’s a retired teacher, our elderly population, their social security, and their healthcare.” Hostin emphasized the Democratic view that Trump’s leadership has resulted in “fewer rights” for people.

“I worry about my children’s future, especially my daughter, who now has fewer rights than I did at her age. My father once told me that I was the first in our family to enjoy full civil rights, and now I feel we have regressed,” Hostin said, without providing specific examples of how Trump might reduce citizens’ rights.
Hostin also argued that Trump should have been disqualified from running for office due to the insurrection narrative. “It disturbs me that the 14th Amendment didn’t prevent someone involved in an insurrection from becoming president. Going forward, the convicted felon box on job applications better be removed, because if you can be President of the United States…” she trailed off.

She added, “Unemployment procedures need to change. When I applied for federal jobs, there was a box for convicted felons—that box must go. I believe our healthcare system is now at risk,” she said, listing her numerous concerns for the nation’s future.
Hostin continued, “Economists predict he will increase the debt by $7.75 trillion. I’m worried about mass deportations, internment camps, and Elon Musk’s warnings of temporary hardship. While the election results surprise me, I’m not entirely shocked.” She concluded, “As a woman of color, I was hopeful that a mixed-race woman married to a Jewish man could be elected president. This result wasn’t about policy; it was a referendum on cultural resentment in this country.”
