Karl Bushby is facing one final challenge in his incredible journey, which began in 1998. After 25 years of trekking across the globe on his ‘Goliath Expedition,’ the 55-year-old from Hull must now find a way to cross the English Channel to complete his mission.

Starting from Punta Arenas, Chile, his ambitious plan was to return home in just 12 years, but various obstacles, including arrests, visa issues, and the harsh elements, have prolonged his journey. He has successfully navigated previous gaps, like the Darién Gap and the Bering Strait, but now he faces his biggest hurdle yet.

Karl can’t use any form of transport due to the expedition’s rules, making the Channel crossing particularly tricky. Swimming isn’t viable, so he’s hoping to traverse a maintenance tunnel within the Channel Tunnel itself, which requires special permission, as foot traffic is typically prohibited.

Karl remains hopeful that authorities will grant him access after learning about his epic journey. He mused, “Would they say no after decades of effort and only 21 miles from home?” As he approaches the final leg of his 36,000-mile adventure, fans are eagerly awaiting updates on whether he can secure the necessary approval to complete his walk back to Hull.
