Yesterday (September 15), another apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump occurred at his West Palm Beach, Florida resort while he was golfing. Reports indicate that shots were fired in his vicinity, prompting the golf course to go into lockdown. Trump later reassured his supporters in a statement, saying he was safe and well, emphasizing that he would not be deterred, and expressing his gratitude for their support.
The FBI is now investigating the incident, treating it as a possible second assassination attempt. The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh from Hawaii, was seen by Secret Service agents, who fired at him after spotting the barrel of his gun in the bushes. Routh, armed with an AK-47 style rifle, dropped his weapon and two backpacks before fleeing in a black Nissan. He was later apprehended by law enforcement and is currently in custody.
Sheriff Ric Bradshaw addressed concerns about how the gunman was able to approach Trump, explaining that the golf course’s shrubbery provided cover and that security was more limited since Trump is not the sitting president. He assured that the Secret Service handled the situation appropriately but noted there would likely be increased security around the course in the future.
This incident follows a similar event in July, where Trump was targeted by gunman Thomas Crooks, which led to the resignation of US Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle.
