Submarine Captures Astonishing Encounter with Deep-Sea Creature
Footage recently revealed a breathtaking moment when a submarine encountered what can only be described as a “deep-sea monster.” The ocean remains a realm of constant discovery, with many of its most awe-inspiring and terrifying creatures remaining largely elusive.
In 2019, a team from OceanX ventured hundreds of meters below the surface and came face-to-face with a colossal, dinosaur-era predator. This creature, a bluntnose sixgill shark (also known as a cow shark), can grow up to 20 feet long.
The remarkable footage shows the enormous female shark swimming over the submarine and even peering inside, creating a scene that feels almost cinematic. Despite its appearance, the creature is not a megalodon but a rare and ancient species.
The OceanX team made history with this rare encounter, capturing the moment in a video that has since been viewed over 25 million times. The footage highlights the bluntnose sixgill shark’s dominance in the deep-sea ecosystem, as explained by lead scientist Dr. Dean Grubbs.
To attract the shark, the team used 100 pounds of bait. Viewers were fascinated by the footage, and the team answered questions about their research methods, including the use of archival satellite tags to track these elusive sharks.
