Harris’ Gun Comments Spark Debate, De Blasio Responds
Vice President Kamala Harris’ statement during a recent event with Oprah Winfrey, where she declared she would shoot an intruder if they broke into her home, drew varied reactions. Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who was present at the event, remarked that many people might find her comments to be “common sense.” He noted, “If someone is a danger to you and your family, that’s a natural instinct.”
Harris acknowledged her remark might have been ill-advised, saying, “I probably should not have said that.” De Blasio described her comments as authentic, reflecting a sentiment many share about self-defense.
In a separate discussion, de Blasio condemned former President Trump’s plans for mass deportations, labeling them as “un-American and dangerous.” He emphasized that the majority of immigrants are law-abiding members of the community and that such deportation strategies do not align with American values.
De Blasio also criticized the actions of Texas and Florida governors for busing migrants to New York City, suggesting it exacerbates the city’s challenges. He highlighted New York’s historical role as a welcoming place for immigrants, which he believes has contributed to its social and economic success.
