Van Jones: Harris Missed Opportunity to End ‘Elder Abuse’ in Final Debate Moments
CNN political commentator Van Jones criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for missing a chance to address what he called “elder abuse” during the final moments of her debate with former President Trump.
Appearing on “CNN NewsNight,” Jones praised Harris for her performance, saying she not only defeated Trump but “humiliated” him. He highlighted her strong presence, stating, “Kamala Harris did something no politician has ever done. She didn’t just beat him; she humiliated him.”
Jones noted Trump’s history of dominating opponents, likening him to the “Pac-Man of American politics,” consuming politicians and discarding them. Despite this, he felt Harris had Trump visibly rattled during their exchanges on topics like the economy, immigration, and health care. A CNN flash poll indicated that 63% of voters felt Harris won the debate, while 37% sided with Trump.
Jones expressed regret that Harris didn’t capitalize on her lead in the last 20 minutes of the debate, suggesting she missed an opportunity to further highlight her own agenda. “I wish she had turned more to her program,” Jones said. “But she’s got plenty of time now.”
Trump’s campaign responded, questioning the debate’s impact on undecided voters and indicating Trump’s reluctance to participate in future debates with Harris.
Jones also suggested that Harris should increase her media presence to further establish her capability to handle major political figures. “She demonstrated she can deal with anyone, whether it’s Putin or Trump,” he concluded.
